Our Tours (2012-2014)
Iraqi Kurdistan is a fascinating place of sheer beauty, warm and friendly people and a rich and challenging history. Although situated in the northern part of Iraq, it is in many ways a complete world apart. Largely unknown or traditionally avoided by Western tourists, we believe this region is an absolute gem in the making and that now is the time to visit before the crowds discover this hidden world.
Kurdistan Adventures is proud to present a range of different tours dependent on your time, budget and travel style.
Our core tour is a 8-day fully escorted tour - "Highlights of Kurdistan", that allows you to travel through Iraqi Kurdistan visiting the 3 major cities of Dohuk, Erbil and Sulymaniya. Explore the colossal citadel in Erbil, get lost shopping the Qaysari Bazaar, marvel at the beauty of the Gali Ali Beg canyon, sing, dance and dine at a traditional Kurdish picnic and acknowledge the terrible legacy of Saddam Hussein.
Minimum operating size of 6 and a maximum operating size of 16. Contact us for latest pricing.
Highlights of the tour include:
Exploring the colossal Citadel (Qalat Hawler) in Erbil – one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
Shopping in the Qaysari Bazaar - a labyrinth of streets and alleys with local vendors selling everything from fascinating antiques to sweet delights – you will find something to treasure.
Walk barefoot through the Sanctuary at Lalish – believed to be the resting place of Noah’s Ark and home to the followers of the Yazidi faith.
See the minaret at the 400 year old Amadiya Mosque in Amadiya, 1200m above sea level.
Enjoy the sheer beauty of the 12km wide Gali Ali Beg canyon, the Hamilton road and the Bekhal waterfall at its end.

Visit the Amna Suraka (Red Security) museum in Sulaymaniyah to remember the terrible legacy of Saddam Hussein’s regime.
Accommodation in carefully selected hotels includes complimentary breakfast - most properties have wireless internet access.

At the present time, Kurdistan Adventures can organise day trips in Sulymaniya and the surrounding areas - eg. Dukan, Pira Magrun, Mergapan, Raniya, Ahmad Awa and Halabja.
Getting away to the mountains is particularly special on a Friday, when many Kurdish families take to the mountain for the start of the weekend and enjoy picnics and dancing.
A number of our clients to date have been interested in custom travel. We are flexible in our approach and can simply provide a modern vehicle with Kurdish driver, to a single day escorted tour with a guide, to a full multi-day custom tour to your specific requirements using luxury vehicles.
All of our drivers are safety driver trained and many of them have a background as security professionals. With all of our custom travel proposals, we can include accommodation and food to your choice - some clients prefer to organise or cost these themselves.
Whether your interest is hiking, walking, camping, visiting archaelogical sights, history and religion or simply getting off the beaten track and taking the path less travelled, Kurdistan Adventures is confident we can meet your expectations.
